Being a golf course superintendent is no walk in the park. With the pressure of keeping the country club members happy there is always pressure to have things perfect. So as a superintendent what are the best ways to keep your members happy?
The first and foremost item would be to keep the golf course in good condition. If you can keep the golf course alive then youre doing your job. But more specifically what can you do.
-Keep the members desires above your vision for what needs to be done with the course. Being aware of the problems the members see is huge to stay on top.
-Keep the entrance looking good. It is always good when a member drives in and feels like they belong to the most exclusive club on the block.
-Disturb golf play as little as possible. Staying out of the way keeps your chances of being blamed for something falsely nearly impossible.
-Keep the clubhouse clean and aesthetically pleasing to the member’s eye.
-Keep the bathrooms clean on the course. This seems simple enough but can make the biggest difference in the experience on the course.
-Make sure there is always plenty of water in the water coolers. When a member wants a drink of water on the course, make sure they can do just that.
Though this is just a small list there are plenty more things that can be done. The key is to always remember, the difference is in the details. When a member can feel first class every time they visit, the mission is accomplished. In order to do this you must stand out above the rest. The difference is in the details.
